Megalomania – How you get creative
Making small things really huge – that’s a simple task for kids because their world looks completely different. Also your idea can be different when varying its size.
01 OBJECTIVES
Overcome your creative limitations set by your brain to improve your idea or product and become innovative.
02 INGREDIENTS
- Your idea, an existing product or an existing service offer that you would like to improve
- Your imagination
03 PROCEDURE
STEP 1: DISASSEMBLE YOUR IDEA INTO SINGLE COMPONENTS
What builds up your idea, your product or service that you want to improve? List all components that you can identify. Maybe you can disassemble those components even more?
STEP 2: SELECT ONE COMPONENT AND MAKE IT BIGGER
Now it’s up to your choice: which component would you like to start with? Just choose one and make it bigger. In a second run you can select another component – and then a third one – and a fourth one – …
STEP 3: DESCRIBE THE NEW SOLUTION AND ITS CHANCES AND OPPORTUNITIES
What would your idea look like with that bigger component? What could a user do with this altered idea? What could they experience? In which environments? Or do you find a completely new idea now? Just keep focused on the opportunities and avoid criticism.
04 BOOSTER: BE BOUNDLESS
Dare to exagerate! Increase sizes to absurd values…
Examples: a TV with a 60 foot screen – glasses that only elephants could wear – a camera with a huge shutter release (hey, we’re just inventing the photo booth here)
